Entertainment zones have been established in different areas of Phuket. These zones allow bars, discos, go-gos, massage parlors to stay open later than other areas because they provide special entertainment for tourists.
Entertainment zones are located in Kata/Karon, Patong, and Phuket City. Thailand, and Patong, are known for the availability of Thai prostitutes or bargirls. Most bars, go-gos, and discos in Patong have Thai women working there as escorts that will talk and drink with you for the evening.
If you like the girl, you can pay a bar fine (200-500 baht) to allow the girl to leave with you for the evening. Many girls also work or visit the discos looking for foreign men to date while they are in Thailand. Unlike the beer bars and go-gos, girls at the discos do not require a bar fine and can go with you for free.
In the entertainment zone along Soi Bangla, large discos like The Tiger, Banana Disco, and the Rock Hard Go-go pump out a constant beat onto the street. The sounds coming from popular entertainment streets like
Soi Sea dragon, Soi Eric, Soi Sea Pearl, and Soi Lion draw customers in and are packed with beer bars and go-gos offering girls, games of chance, and drinks. It is all about letting loose and having a good time when you are on Soi Bangla.
In the past two years Patong and Soi Bangla has really started to become a major attraction. This year alone we have coming a new Hooters, Rock City with a disco, bars, and live entertainment. The Patong nightlife area has completely recovered from the tsunami and there are more tourists than ever enjoying the nightlife in the tropics.
Most Thai bargirls will stay with you for the entire night in your room for 1000-1500 baht. Many of our students end up with Thai girlfriends while they are in Phuket and negotiate a price for the girl to stay with them and take care of them while they are in Phuket. The Thai girls are great at negotiating discounts on gifts or items you might buy and are very friendly, and most that work in the entertainment zones speak english to some degree.
Please take caution when engaging in sex with a bargirl and wear a condom. STD's are common in countries that have prostitution available, and Thailand is no exception. Thai people are known for their personal cleanliness. The girl will almost always want to take a shower before and after sex. Bargirls in Thailand do not often make a lot of money, so do not expect the girl to have condoms. Be prepared. Not every bargirl is an angel that turned to prostitution to support her family. Watch your valuables and keep expensive items like gold chains and jewelry in a safe place such as a room safe.
Not every Thai girl you see is a working bargirl. It is easy to see a beautiful woman in Patong, or Phuket, and think she will go with you if you offer her money. Many Thai women not working in the bars will be offended by such a request. As a tourist, show respect for the Thai people and their country and act appropriately.
Under no circumstance should you get into a physical confrontation or fight with a Thai or foreigner (unless it is in the ring). If arrested in Thailand and charged with a crime you have two choices: pay a hefty fine to the police officer and get the hell out of there, or be arrested, charged, convicted, and thrown out of Thailand in 24-48 hours never to come back. It is easier to just smile and walk on if you don't like something or someone. After all, this is the land of smiles.
